Break

Composite image created from many images, colour and photo filter layers.

All images used in this composite taken with Sony Alpha 350, various lenses, and are mine.

I hesitated for some days re whether to post this image at all, as I was concerned that even though in appearance and technical execution it is very different, I feel that conceptually this image has some similarities with the image ‘Iced’ posted recently by the very talented artist navybrat

Anyway, I decided finally that I would post it. I know that it has been sitting in my files on the way to completion for the past month, well before the above image was posted, and there are, anyway, other extremely good artworks by other talented artists here on Red Bubble with both ‘hands’ in similar poses and similar conceptual themes.

So, here then, is my current version of ‘Break’. This is an image that would show more of it’s being viewed large. Thank you.

very clever, Dragonflyer! – brings us very close to the photographer somehow and makes us think we are about to be freed from an icy dungeon

  • DragonFlyer replied

Thank you for your lovely comment nadine! Yes, I had some sense of ‘breaking free’ or ‘breaking out’ as I made this :)))

Thank you so much my friend! You just need to spend some time in front of Photoshop on your computer, start clicking on any control you can find, and see what happens… there’s always the ‘edit’ undo… ;)))

Fantastic work, K – I know what you mean about navybrat’s work (I’d seen it too – fabulous), but I do feel yours is different and I know you’ve been working on this theme for a while – not that that would matter anyway. This is just wonderful, my friend :))

  • DragonFlyer replied

Thanks very much Colleen! I’m glad you get what I mean about ‘Iced’, as it’s not really ‘the same’ at all… It’s an amazing piece of work and I wouldn’t and couldn’t ‘compete’ or anything with it anyway. Very glad you like this – especially :)))

trapped in shells of our own devices…finding the strength and courage to “break ” through can sometimes be difficult…... this speaks of the common struggle we all face one way or another…..... excellent imagery my friend….... showing the spirit of courage…......... b

  • DragonFlyer replied

Big thanks my friend! I was hoping very much that this image would ‘work’ in conveying a sense of this universal struggle :)))

Breaking free or tentatively reaching for help – either interpretation, or even others, work for me. You are tapping into your creative unconscious, K. I don’t think you need worry about “Iced”, as your work differs quite a bit. But how cool to feel concern for infringing on another artist’s turf; I just don’t think you did.

  • DragonFlyer replied

Thank you so much for your lovely comment Jan! it’s reassuring that you see no concerns re any conceptual similarity between any works here :)))

    dramatic claustrophobic and desperate image.
the funny thing about posting images you think are real departures from your normal style is that sometimes, when looking back over them, you realise they weren’t so far removed – after all, they have the same parent!

  • DragonFlyer replied

It is like that, isn’t it – you saw in the above comments how this ‘fits perfectly’ with my existing series? Thank you for your lovely comment J :)))
