There Are Some Things...

That Can Only Be Seen Through the Cracks…

All images used in this composite taken with Sony Alpha 350, various lenses, and are mine.

Currently (8.11.09) 935 views

Separate layers of images of broken glass using various blending modes, individual ‘shards’ of glass from different images layered on top to attempt to give the appearance of their sharp edges ‘threatening’ the viewer. The image of the person layered underneath and ‘stretched’ so that the eyes matched the gaps in the cracks.
I experimented with desaturating the colour in this image, but decided that leaving colour ‘as is’ from the various layers created more impact.

This can be the first in an even cooler series than “dead wings” ;)
    ...roy

  • DragonFlyer replied

Thank you so much Roy – this is really the direction I’m headed… but I’ve had to ‘leave’ a few images that are partially done for a bit as they are a little ‘hard’ for me to work on to the standard I want right now… but they will come! This is WONDERFUL encouragement and praise from you – thank you so very much :)))

  • Clare Colins

    Clare Colins

Wow!! This is wonderful my friend well done….very well done :)

  • DragonFlyer replied

Thank you LOTS Clare – this is the one where I started off trying to combine glass with feathers… (STUPID idea!!!) I think this is a more expressive and realistic way to go… ;)

  • Colleen Milburn

    Colleen Milburn

Wonderful piece of art, K – you’re way ahead of me in PS!!! Good for you, my friend :))

Good editing. You convey emotion through this, at least to me. With my one good eye still hanging in there, I see those shards and feel danger, fear, the need for protective goggles, and see the need to look carefully, as you write, through the cracks—to peer closely. Excellent layers and composites!

  • DragonFlyer replied

thank you very much Jan – That’s what I aim for always – to try to convey some kind of emotion – or feeling… So I am very happy that it seems to work in that! Thank you very much for your encouragement :)))

“Not all you see. YOU TRULY SEE!” The doorway is like the wind, breathe for you are the eye that sees! Excellent creation friend!!!...)o(

  • DragonFlyer

    DragonFlyer

‘-breathe – for you are the eye that sees…’ The ability to ‘see’ comes from a place at the centre of life.. from the ‘breath’... and that has to be ‘found’. If you feel I have ‘found’ this then I am trully honoured. Thank you my friend :)))

  • John Fish

    John Fish

this is great. what a superb job of layering and composing this image. beautiful

  • DragonFlyer replied

And thank you so so much again!!! As the ‘portraits’ were photos taken in the first months after I got my camera, the ‘edited’ in the first weeks after getting Photoshop, I aam still now in the very very early stages of learning the techniques of ‘layering and blending’! I an teaching myself – and learning from others here on RB – but I only actually worked out how to even ‘place’ 2 images on top of each other about a month ago… then it took me ages again to even find there was an ‘opacity’ slider on the eraser… and I learnt through The Photographers’ Craft forums how to use the cloning tool and ‘curves’ just last week! I’m on a very steep learning curve – your wonderful response to my efforts is great encouragement that I’m headed in a worthwhile direction :)))

and this image is great – I must’ve missed it before. looks as though you’re trapped under ice.

  • DragonFlyer replied

Thank you so much J! I think it’s a big game of ‘chance’ who gets ‘found’ for the Red Bubble features page (not the total ‘HomePage’ – the ART page… though I have to admit I’m really happy to have finally been ‘noticed’ for it! Really glad you like this image – it’s one of my earlier composites, when I was just starting to get the hang of how to lay images one on top of the other… I THINK it worked out ok :)))

  • jacqleen

    jacqleen

RIGHT at this very moment…............that’s how I FEEL…everything is cracking around me or is already broken….......but somehow I need to SEE through it all….........LOVE this IMAGE/ART…very nice work!!!

  • DragonFlyer replied

Ooooh – that’s a SUPER hard way to feel – I’m sorry – very sorry… but that’s kind of the thing – like you say you NEED to see through it all – and NOTHING ever stays the same… all things change, that is life. Just sometimes it’s hard to see past the immediate ‘now’ – no matter how much we’d love to! Very glad you like this work – thank you for that :)))
