Flicker

She calls me out of the blue,
Just as I was better,
Becoming somewhat stable.
So what does she intend?
I thought my hand was played—
New cards lie face down on the table.

She says she’s wrong,
But I shouldn’t want her back.
Can I just pretend?
Just forget the past,
But maybe I’m not able,
And I fold in the end.

She dreams the champagne dream,
Rainbows and butterflies—
It all looks good on paper.
She plays a bluffing hand,
Gambles all she has,
Reality has escaped her.

She thinks that Love
Is for fools that fall behind.
I’m lost somewhere between,
Never really sure now what is left to find.

We’re here and now,
But will we even be again?
For I have found, all that shimmers in this world
Is sure to fade, away again.

You’re too far away for me to hold.
Too far away… Guess my cards I’ll fold.
