Artist's Description

Bishop Frederic Baraga, born in Croatia, was the first bishop of the Diocese of Marquette, MI (mid-19th century). He is popularly known as the Snowshoe Priest because of his frequent use of said item in his tireless journeys around the UP and northern LP of Michigan, visiting parishes churches and mission sites. The Bishop has many devotees across the Northern Midwest and Canada, and the cause for his beatification is in process at the Vatican, with a recent miraculous cure currently under investigation. The picture shows the Bishop flanked by one his earliest mission chapels and the present cathedral church of the Marquette Diocese. The origal of this picture is made of cut paper, with additions in ink and acrylic paint.
