watercolour on 12″ × 16″ Arches rough paper
A seagull sits atop a large rock cluster off the shore of Terrace Bay Beach at Terrace Bay, Ontario, on the north coast of Lake Superior.
The rocks along Lake Superior’s north shore look to me like frozen fluid, perhaps magma. They might be of volcanic origin. In any case they remind me of whales and are always beautiful to behold, jutting out of the water.
Born in Essex, England, living in Canada now, north of Lake Superior in Schreiber, Ontario.
Painting in watercolours since I was 8 years old, and after a career in the field of photography, mostly with Konica Canada, I am finally an artist, full time.

You are one of a few painters I know who could pull off a painting such as this(that much grey rock) and make it work…excellently done Douglas.
What a kind thing to say, Jim. Thanks.

Really well painted Douglas. The perched seagull makes it!
