The Maltese Times by

watercolour 12″ × 16″ on Arches cold pressed 140lb paper

When my brother was on a business trip recently in Malta, he sent me this photograph which I couldn’t resist painting!

It is a quick rendition of the subject, and quite a departure from my usual detailed work.

I absolutely love this Douglas. It may be a short departure from the norm, but boy what a great one. Going into my favorites.

  • Thanks, Jim. Sometimes I just need to paint a loose one like this!

I like the different style here – It somehow makes the lemon and the drink seem more refreshing.

  • Thanks Lora

Gee, this is fantastic. I love the feel of this. Makes me think a spy was hiding behind that paper waiting…..waiting…..and in such a hurry that when his person of interest was seen he rushed off, sadly, leaving a wonderful hat behind……uh oh, with DNA and fingerprints on the glass…Well, this photo and painting bring on all kinds of thoughts I see.

  • When I first saw the photograph that I based this painting on, I, too thought of spies and intrigue. It almost feels like you are in a Humphrey Bogart movie, looking at this!
    Thanks for your wonderful comment.
