watercolour 12″ × 16″ on Arches cold pressed paper
Close to Sinclair Cove on HWY 17 along the north shore of Lake Superior is this lookout. Someone built an attractive inukshuk on the rocks overlooking Lake Superior which, on this day, shimmered with sunlight in fresh northern air.
Douglas, you have a special talent for light sourses and the way they reflect off different materials better than anyone I know. And the same really for your shadows. Skillfully done and as always beautifully done as well.
I have a passion for ‘against the light’ paintings. They are tricky to do but when done right they really sparkle – and you got this one just right Douglas.
I was pleased with the way this one turned out, Brian. That’s not the case with all of my paintings.
I know little about painting, but I cannot believe that this is a watercolor. I was sure this was a photo, especially the background & rocks, even in large view. Amazing.
Thanks, AuntieJ. It is always good to receive your comments.
Your work ASTOUNDS me Doug! I agree with what Brian Towers said above re: ‘against the light’ paintings. You have a beautiful technique and you are one of my favourite artists on the Bubble.
What a beautiful compliment! thank you so much, Lynda. I’ve been wanting to paint this scene for over 2 years now, and finally the time was right!
Oh, it IS a watercolor……an amazing one. I thought to myself when I saw the thumbnail….a photo? Super work with the light on the water and the “inukshuk”.
This is why I decided to only post paintings, and no photos any more. It gets confusing! And painting is my passion. Thanks for the comment, Kate
