Silent Sunrise by Douglas Hunt

Silent Sunrise by

watercolour 12″ × 16″ on Arches Cold Pressed paper

The only movement was the mist, drifting in wisps and then disappearing silently above the still surface of the lake.

See a short movie that I took of this lake on YouTube

Beautiful painting – I love the blue in the foreground. What paints did you use for that?

  • thanks for your comment, Lora. If I remember correctly, the blue was a combination of ultramarine and prussian. I could have thrown in a touch of something else; I don’t really remember! I use a lot of brands of watercolors; Windsor Newton, Reeves, DaVinci, Grumbacher, Talens

Wow..love the reflections! Did you do the whole area wet in wet?

  • The entire painting, with the exception of the peninsula jutting out into the lake, along with the rocks, is wet in wet, with details added after.

Doug that is lovely. Very atmospheric. The warmth in the backlighting of the grass is beautiful. Full of light and lovely.

  • This type of scenery really inspires me!
