Watercolor 16″ × 12″ on Arches hot pressed paper

Early morning mist rises above a small lake close to Rainbow Falls Provincial Park in Ontario, on the north shore of Lake Superior.

Sitting on one of the shoreline boulders while watching this scene, one falls quietly into meditation.

Born in Essex, England, living in Canada now, north of Lake Superior in Schreiber, Ontario.
Painting in watercolours since I was 8 years old, and after a career in the field of photography, mostly with Konica Canada, I am finally an artist, full time.

I really like the small patch of blue in the upper right. It tells the story of the coming day. Great painting Douglas.

I am also drawn to the small patch of blue, and the one in the water……..and the trees are really excellent…love the brush strokes. Really lovely serene scene.

It seems a wonderful place to meditate indeed ! I agree with kate : the two patches of blue draw the attention….the reflections are really well rendered (you are a master in this !), the whole composition, with those somptious trees, is magnificent Douglas

You are SUCH a master of the watercolour medium Doug! You just have a way of painting the ‘light’ which gives your work that ‘wow’ factor every time.

This is stunning, Doug. It is Canada at its best. I love the mist and the limited palette.
