Rendezvous
watercolour 18” x 24” on Arches paper
This is a bit of a departure from my usual realistic style. I felt inspired to loosen up a little and give this an impressionistic feel.
It is a portrait of Charles Wilkins, Canadian author, at the Madhouse Restaurant in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
Rendezvous belongs to the following groups:

Well it was the right choice Douglas. I absolutely love the way you’ve lightened the background and brought just a little more detail and features to the foreground. Excellently done.

Wow Douglas – this is really fantastic work! A really fine portrait which I imagine would be quite difficult to do with watercolour.

Thanks Lynda. It was more difficult than I anticipated, but that also makes it more satisfying to paint, I guess!

ISMAIL ALAOUI ...
youare really an expert in watercolors use,
the lighting in your works is always astonishing,
even if you don’t complete the details to 100%;
wow its better and it looks so real tough
Douglas Hunt replied

Randy Sprout
Fabulous look at light and figure, then your treatment of the eyes, the hand, and the head are just so sensitive to an older person that you respect. I think it is so easy for a painter to loose the “dignity” part of an older model. When I first saw your photograph of this friend I was wondering how in the world one could paint that dignity, well you have done it very well.
Douglas Hunt replied
Thanks for such an insightful comment, Randy. I appreciate it.
