Been there plenty of times dougie, I know that slope down to the bottom very well.. the water level is low in your shot.. I think I have a photo of it in spate somewhere… I’ll see if I can find it..it’s a tremendous sight.

  • ok alan, i saw your last posting . i knew off it but hadn’t been. there are quite a lot around goathland, and we shall be having a look as time goes by, but we have a lot of other places to do as well. on the nellie subject, why can’t we take cars as far as hunt house? the river comes through fromwheeldale and i see stepping stones and a path there?

    Hi dougie,
I don’t know of a public right of way that follows the river from Nelly Ayre Foss ( note spelling ). Those stepping stones go towards Wheeldale road.. I always park on the roadside about halfway along Hunt House road, Nelly is a short walk at right angles to the road.

  • yes, but i meant beyond. theres a no unauthorisedvehicle sign up, and i wondered why?

I believe officially the road ends at the part where the road forks and there’s what the O/S calls a carpark. The road going down is classed as a bridleway, the road that carries on goes to Hunt House.. but like you I can’t recall any signs saying go no further.
