is nobody out there?

i’m experimenting with my flash. it can be set with or with out an external flash.so it is set for both, using the remote, i sit in front of the lens, take the picture, both flashes operate, but i get a dimly lit photo. what am i doing wrong?

after deciding to buy nikon, i find the accessories very expensive. i found a sigma 70×300 this week for just £100:00 i am now searching for a reasonably priced 10×20 wide angle zoom. any bubblers got a spare one lying about? (d80)
