Saltburn Passing by

This image was mad eusing a very long exposure of several minutes to capture the surreal effect of time on the seascape.

The exposure time shows a world we live in but don’t experience – and tries to engage us with the passage of time. The clouds streak, the sea becomes flat and opaque. Solid objects stand unmoveable as the effects of time occur around them

I found the conversion of the image to black and white helped to focus the eye on the movement in the image rather than to be distracted by colours.

This pier is to be found at the small Victorian seaside town of Saltburn, in the North East of England

I used a ten stop ND filter and a three stop Lee ND Grad to balance the exposure which lasted just over four minutes.
