Axis Deer on the Run

DottieDees

Goodrich, United States

Artist's Description

I took this Axis deer across from where I live close to the river. He and two females stood long enough for me to get 70 shots….this was taken as he was exiting…The Axis deer are from India and were brought to the US in the 1930’s and to Texas in the 80’s. They have spots even as adults at which time they are much more noticeable. They are not like the White Tail as they can be in rut several times a year and always have 1 baby at a time. The males rack is always 6 point. The families stay together. The babies stay with them even when grown. They are also much better eating than the White Tail but I prefer not even think about that…they are just too pretty to eat…
