Edmund Kemper (b. 1948), also known as The Co-Ed Killer, killed six female hitchhikers in California between 1972 and 1973. His criminal career also took in the murder of his grandparents in 1963 (for which he spent his early adulthood in a psychiatric hospital) and also the murder and dismemberment of his mother shortly before he turned himself over to the authorities.
