Cats and Dogs
The words on this etegami are a quote from the poem “The Naming of Cats” from the book Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats by T.S.Eliot.
This is an original Etegami, hand-painted with sumi ink and water soluble gansai paints on an absorbent washi card.

I am a professional Japanese-to-English translator and an Etegami artist. Etegami is a traditional Japanese folk art that combines thoughtful words with simple images painted on washi paper.

Delightful. I learned several of the poems from that book by heart, when I was small, and recite them to this day! I still have my original copy too. So your lovely illustration leapt out at me!
I haven’t tried to memorize the poems, but they really are catchy, aren’t they. I did a series a year or two ago, illustrating each of the poems in the book. I thought I had gotten it out of my system after that, but I guess I hadn’t. ;p
