Vanity and the Snail by dosankodebbie

This is an Etegami collage inspired by a haiku by Kobayashi Issa (1763 – 1827). The snail was painted on a washi card with sumi ink and water-soluble gansai paints, then cut out and glued to a background of brightly patterned washi paper. Etegami is a traditional Japanese folk art that combines simple images with thoughtful words.

    How fun!
Issa is wonderful, and would certainly notice how snails can be so pompous-looking.

    Happy Holidays to you!
