Etegami painting of a Waratah blossom. The accompanying Japanese words translate to “I love your laughing face.” It is a play on words, based on the similarity of the word Waratah to the Japanese word for “laughed” (waratta).
Materials used for this piece are sumi ink, gansai water soluble mineral-based paints, and absorbent washi cardstock. The drawing tools I used are a bamboo quill pen and a natural fiber Japanese coloring brush. Dimensions of the original work are 10cm x 15cm (approx. 4” x 6”).
