This is an Etegami-based collage. Etegami is a traditional Japanese folk art that combines simple images with thoughtful words. The peanuts were painted in the traditional etegami manner on a washi card, then cut out and glued to a thin, yellowed washi page from an antique book of singing poems (shigin). The accompanying words were typed on ordinary printing paper.
The quote is from The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran.
Materials used for this piece are sumi ink, gansai paints, antique washi paper, and absorbent washi cardstock. The drawing tools I used are natural fiber Japanese writing and coloring brushes. Dimensions of the original work are 10cm x 15cm (approx. 4” x 6”).
