Buttertubs Pass

Buttertubs Pass is a spectacular high mountain road which leads across the moors from Muker and Thwaite in Swaledale to the Hamlet of Hardraw (famous for the waterfall of Hardraw Force) and Hawes in Wensledale.

The pass is so called because near its summit the road passes by a group of fluted Limestone Potholes which are known as the “Buttertubs”.

  • Thanks Mary…It is said that where I live in Yorkshire ’ its God’s country’ we have such a varied landscape from the North Sea Coast to the Yorkshire Dales and the Pennines.
