a place to sit
a place to watch the wee birdy’s
hang oot yir washing on a windy day
and if yir lucky a bit of sunshine comes your way.
in the hedges where the gossip grows
fae neighbours now and long ago
where children play and make a noise
now wi trampolines and plastic toys
a lot has changed from days gone by
where grannies voice you could hear her cry
‘Come in for yir Tea’ it will be be getting cauld
you’ve got one minute ,you’ve been told
now it’s awe decking and bbq’s
fandangled fences and solar hues
but the memory of family fun and cheer
comes rushing back when I ’m sitting oot wi ma beer
