nope! it’s a fossil herring (Diplomystus humilis) from the Green River Shale, Eocene age (about 55 million years old) probably from the beds near Kemmerer,Wyoming (ask the man who has a million of them). fairly common & not a bad specimen.

Great shot. If your using your flash try turning your lens hood around the other way. It catches some of the flash on close in shots. Hope that solves the problem. :)

sometimes this species is identified as the genus “Knightia”; Diplomystus & Knightia are so similar they are often confused. how am doing so far?
