GRANNIES APRON
This was sent to me, I wanted to share it with you.
The History of APRONS ,
I don’t think our kids know what an apron is.
The principal use of Grandma’s apron was to protect the dress underneath, but along with that, it served as a potholder for removing hot pans from the oven.
It was wonderful for drying children’s tears, and on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears .
From the chicken coop, the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in the warming oven.
When company came, those aprons were ideal hiding places for shy kids.
And when the weather was cold, grandma wrapped it around her arms.
Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow, bent over the hot wood stove.
Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in that apron.
From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables. After the peas had been shelled, it carried out the hulls.
In the fall, the apron was used to bring in apples that had fallen from the trees.
When unexpected company drove up the road, it was surprising how much
furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds.
When dinner was ready, Grandma walked out onto the porch, waved her apron, and the men knew it was time to come in from the fields to dinner.
It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace that ‘old-time apron’ that served so many
purposes.
REMEMBER:
Grandma used to set her hot baked apple pies on the window sill to cool
Her granddaughters set theirs on the window sill to thaw.
They would go crazy now trying to figure out how many germs were on that apron. I don’t think I ever caught anything from a Apron.

I miss mine, too. My great-aunts would come to visit their sister, and I called her Nanny, rather than Nana. They were wonderful women. And beautiful, like yours.
My great grandma was known to my mom and her brother and sister and cousins as “Fat Grandma”. The other one was “Skinny Grandma”. LOL, it didn’t used to be a social sin to be a large woman.

I know, you have to watch your tongue, which can be quite tough to do sometimes…....I mean you just cant speak right with your tongue hanging out….......hahaha….......you have to be careful about what you are saying ,for to be politicaly correcto!!!.........I was brought up by a Grand Family….....Dont know how we used to all fit in on the Sunday visit….....but most times we ,the kids, would be sent to the fish and chip shop for our treat, and if we were lucky we could take the empty juice bottles back to the shop and get money ,for our own bags, instead of having to go round wi yir buttered slice of bread, only being allowed one chip from each of the Adults!!!!.........So glad we had a big family….......memories are so prescious….....and chips…...............hahaha…......xxx

dumb as it sounds the “Apron” memories in that piece brought a tear to my eye
you never really thought about it, it was just an apron, and every mum / grannie had one and wore it with something approaching pride, it was a battle dress and a comforter all in one
as for your pic SFD 60’s Pebbledash LOL
and the two women hanging round the door mulling over the day’s events, so many memories in this Thank you babe
