the Face of a returned Afghani refugee by

I saw a TV program last year on returned refugees. this was a spontaneous drawing after i saw it. This beautiful man had been forcibly returned to Afghanistan from Australia and then his young daughters were killed in their home…so wrong…so deeply disturbing…
this is on A3 watercolour paper with walnut ink.

Very moving Donna. It is beyond my comprehension that so many Australians have no real idea of what most of these people deal with on a daily basis and how desperate their lives are. Well done.

Its a very eye catching image when you see it as a thumbnail. Then the story gives it so much power.
You captured your anguish and his destroyed life so well. Horrendous story! I’m so angry.
Stunning image of the kind that only happens spontaneously. The magic of art.

I love how the thickness of the line of the drawing basically becomes the shadow of the image, it’s very innovative I think, the sadness of the story is reflected in the emotion of the image. That’s art : )
