Alabaster the Cat and a Butterfly. by

This is another scene with my new “pet”, Alabaster the Cat, playing in the garden with a butterfly!
Original is a inkjet collage background, then laser printed. Then a transparency film painted with acrylic paint had been cut out and also glued to the laser print background. Highlights in the hedge maze were then painted in acrylic paint. Then it is laser printed again.
Thanks to the ladies at the Nowra Copy Centre for their help with the laser printing during the year!

I love the piece and the process you describe. My favorite is the cat’s tail hugging the pillar just like the vine. Great distinctive style, Donna.

  • Oh thanks Pete! I have found a way to duplicate the backgrounds and save a bit on my poor, but well loved inkjet printer! I love garden scenes and particularly ones at night. I thought Alabaster would need his tail to hug the pillar – it is quite a height up there!

This is great to view, I love the dimensional feel with the pillars in the foreground & alabaster (great name btw!) just a wonderful peice overall!!

  • Thanks Alixandra! The transparency film lends itself to that effect – 3D. It reminds me of the way they used to make animation films with a background and a cell on top giving it that 3D feel. I had a journal entry asking for potential names for my new character (instead of my Oscar the Dragon) and I had a great response!

  • Thanks Ming! I am really enjoying this sort of art as I get to play with my favourite theme – Strange things in a Night Garden. I am looking forward too creating another Alabaster Art work with one of my Xmas presents I was given his year! Which should be a bit of a giggle! Hope you are having a wonderful Xmas/Solstice. XXX

I love this series… and the rich dark greens in this one, it’s so mysterious!

  • Thanks Stephanie! I had used a laser print for the background and the colours tend to be more vivid than the ink jet collages. The ladies and lad at the Nowra Copy centre now know what I want when I turn up with art in folio!
