How this image was made:
I created the colorful pattern in a perlin making program, then erased the background of a photo of a child I had taken earlier. Next I overlaid the photo onto the pattern. It is very easy to choose how you want the combined images/layers to look using my graphics software (PhotoImpact 10).
Then I erased the part of the pattern layer where the childs face is so her face show nicely.
