Artist's Description

The Cross at Night In the Memorial Garden just outside St Luke’s Church in West Norwood, London, UK.

World War Memorial Cross.
Captured on Friday evening at about 10.30pm.

Camera Details Nikon D700 with 16-35mm Nikon Lense. ISO 100, 30sec exposure, f/8.0 app setting, 35mm zoomed. Tripod mounted. Manual Mode.
This image is as it was captured. straight from the camera to the screen. I’m still surprise at the lack of noise produced in long exposure from the D700, such a great camera for low light photography. Granted it’s at the lowest ISO setting.

I really like the way the cross is lit with the lamps of the nearby St Luke’s Church.

Remembrance Day 11th Nov. On Remembrance Sunday this year we all gathered around this old cross and prayed and sang some lovely old hymns. The Words of one of them are printed below; The Old Rugged Cross. That song really keeps me going for the Lord Jesus in this modern world, what our Saviour did on the Cross for everyone is truly awesome.

The Old Rugged Cross
On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
The emblem of suff’ring and shame;
And I love that old cross where the dearest and best
For a world of lost sinners was slain.

Refrain
So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.

Oh, that old rugged cross, so despised by the world,
Has a wondrous attraction for me;
For the dear Lamb of God left His glory above
To bear it to dark Calvary.

In that old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine,
A wondrous beauty I see,
For ’twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died,
To pardon and sanctify me.

To the old rugged cross I will ever be true;
Its shame and reproach gladly bear;
Then He’ll call me some day to my home far away,
Where His glory forever I’ll share.

Refrain
So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.
