Thames View of Big Ben and Houses of Parliament by

Thames View of Big Ben and Houses of Parliament and Westminster Bridge.

Views like this are one of the reasons that made my move from Devon to the Capital less of a heartache. I do miss the wonderful rural landscapes of Devon, but a photographer / artist can find inspiration anywhere, if only he’ll open his eyes and heart.
I captured this scene whilst visiting St Thomas’ Hospital at Westminster Bridge. The light was bright so I took shelter under the trees and the view across the Thames to the Houses of Parliament was stunning from the shade. Westminster Bridge was also looking good and I’m surprised there was so much detail in the shadows under the arches. I like the orange reflections of the buildings on the water, and wonder what it would have looked like had I used some ND filtres???? I’ll have to try that one day.

Camera. Nikon D700 with 24-120mm Lense. ISO200 1/125sec f/9.0.

Nice pic Don. Glad that you were not stopped as being a potential terrorist. A number of my friends have had problems taking shots here. Afterall, it is easy to confuse a Nikon DSLR for a rocket launcher.

  • That’s soooo true Gary, I’ve been stopped and questioned at the Thames Barrier, but not in London: YET! Thanks for your comments and timely warning. Don.

You really found the ideal spot for this photo. I can’t ever recall seeing this exact scene anywhere before so you may well have a unique capture!! Wonderful photo Don – but I hope the hospital visit was nothing for you (and us) to worry about.
Take care and all best wishes
    Peter

  • Hey there Peter, thanks for that my friend. I do try and find unique angles on the familiar and overly photographed or I try to make them really great shots:-) LOL. However, I’ve seen one from this angle before. The hospital visit was in the summer for my cancer treatment and it seems to have cleared up now. Touch my Ginger Wooden Top:-) LOL. Don.
