Sunrise Chelsea Bridge from Battersea Bridge, the Thames London, UK.
You’ll notice the Shard in the background too.
I’ve just woken up again after having had a little nap. I was up very early this morning to get out in time for the sunrise at Battersea Bridge.
It’s about four miles from home, so I had to drive and find a parking space where my car would not be clamped or towed away (a constant danger in London) but close enough so that I wouldn’t have to carry all my gear for miles. Luckily I found a space right next to Chelsea Bridge and walked a few hundred yards to Battersea Bridge along the river front. At 5.00am it’s all quiet here and not much traffic noise in the background, all peaceful and calm.
The sky was beginning to brighten on the horizon, so I knew I’d have to hurry to get into position. I wanted a shot from Battersea Bridge, zoomed into 300mm on Chelsea Bridge so that I could frame-up with the sun coming up behind the Shard, London’s new prominent landmark. Before setting out, I’d done my research and knew exactly where to be for the sunrise at 5.30am. There’s a wonderful little program you can download to your computer, iPad and iPhone called Photographer’s Ephemeris and you easily discover the position of the rising and setting sun.
