Mental Artefacts that Slumber in the Dirt of History

Most of my photos
are not in albums or collections
rather -
they’re indexed in the vault of my psyche.

Like me
sprawled on the beach,
with fresh air conducting wind and mist like an orchestra
around me pretending to sleep so you would
kiss my
back.

Like you
with eyes of onyx
in a dark bundle at the foot of your bed
where my heart crawled into
your tears.

Like my hand
winding around your neck like a
vine
like you were
mine

But pictures are only the dust recovered of moments
and I fear this archaeology
is silently robbing me
of a fair night’s sleep
again.

Artist's Description

This is about me mulling over what I’ll call an “interesting” friendship and trying to make sense of the thing. Interestingly, it doesn’t mention any important events, but hones in on those seemingly insignificant moments that are somehow caught in the web of memory.

PS: It is sort of a sequal to my poem “Old Photographs,” so it might be interesting to read them together :>
