Dominica Alcántara was born in Camajuaní, Las Villas, Cuba on May 12th, 1923. When she was a small child her parents moved the family to The Canary Islands. There Dominica studied painting, which became her life long passion, at a private academy. The family returned to Cuba when she was a teenager where Dominica continued her studies in painting, learning diverse artistic techniques. As a Cuban exile in America she worked as a teacher and continued her art studies under the tutelage of the late great Spanish painter and professor Ramón Lapayese. Dominica has a keen ability to transfer vivid colors, as seen through her eyes, to canvas. You can also find her on facebook
My name is Juan Alcantara I’m Dominica’s son. I have created this Bubble site for her by her request, I also have a RedBubble site. She is 91 years old, she paints almost everyday. I’m a firm believer that her painting is what keeps her clear of mind and young at heart. We both hope you will enjoy her artwork and while she speaks very little English she does read it quiet well. I print out all the comments to her, she replies in Spanish, I translate her replies and post them.
This is an 80 page book of Dominica’s art, click on the image below and check it out.
