Winter Solstice 2010 at Cullen Bay by

Sand deposition and an unchanging sea level over the past 35 years have resulted in this once shallow bay now having its own foredune complete with colonising plants (left). The large sea stack has become more of a land stack.

[ Update: Journal of Geophysical Research – Oceans, Aug.2010 ; " there has been no acceleration in sea level rise over the past 100+ years." ]

Beautiful bay. I love the soft evening light on that rugged rock. Slàinte! Kasia

  • Hi Kasia, thank you. Fortunately the beach is pristine, protected by a very ‘hairy’ descent on the right of the photo. Slainte!

Wonderful rock formations, really like the reflections in the foreground water.

  • Many thanks, David. And there is little chance of footprints interrupting the reflections – the very precarious “path” down always threatens to make a descent your last..
