Polochar Inn, South Uist by

Situated on the south-west tip of South Uist, Outer Hebrides, Polochar Inn is a welcoming beacon to a splendidly isolated part of the island.

In the evening, the peat fire and a single malt are great accompaniments to the end of any day on the hills.

Very evocative photograph of the place and the description sounds like bliss:-) They even have their own standing stone outside the hotel as I recall!

  • A 25 yr old Macallan does the trick, Richard :) . I had almost forgotten the stone. Second time to have stayed there (I see I have not dated this yet – Sept. last). It certainly creates a unique feeling of being at the extremity. Good restaurant, too.

Lovely shot across the bay. I stayed there last year June as a special treat and it was wonderful with an impressive view out over the bay to Eriskay and Barra. The food in the restaurant was excellent! Can definitely recommend it. You’ve inspired me to look through my photos from that trip:-) Thanks, Kasia

  • Thanks, Kasia. Yes, the food was good.
The first time I visited, in the 90’s, there was no causeway to Eriskay, and I only heard about it 2 years ago. Quite a change for the Eriskay residents.
