" On the shores of another world " by

As if asleep on the beach, a dead sea-lion has almost lost its last link with the winter sea.

It likely died two days ago on this lonely stretch of coast, undisturbed by anything but the ’song of the surf ’.
.

(No injuries evident, and not an old sea-lion.)

Geltwood Beach area, near Rivoli Bay, South-East of South Australia.
.

(Title from, "The Song of the Surf ", by local poet Adam Lindsay Gordon, 1833 – 1870 . A bust of Gordon is in Westminster Abbey.)

    poor thing!

  • Hi Doug, yes, sad, at first I thought it was sleeping, as they do to rest and regain warmth. There is a colony 200 miles away at Kangaroo Island, and they visit here regularly.

Poignant shot – really nicely done. I remember horseriding across a deserted beach in Suth Africa when we came across a dead elephant seal – that was sad too (and very smelly!) x

    That was ‘South’ Africa! :)

  • Thank you for the comment, Lisa. Now riding across a deserted beach in SA sounds rather pleasant. Unfortunately my last horse, a 17 hand thoroughbred, is no more so now it’s 4WD.
