Named after the barque “Geltwood”, 1056 tons, wrecked here during a great storm with the loss of all hands, on its maiden voyage from Harrington (Cumbria) via Liverpool, to Melbourne, June 1876.

Beautiful shot! Love the dramatic clouds a good third above the rough waves and wonderful beach.
Thank you, Jan. This beach offered no chances for sailing ships caught in a south-westerly storm – about 100 never made it past the South-East coast. Maybe you are familiar with Elgar’s “Sea Pictures” – the last song is set to words of Adam Lindsay Gordon, written about this stretch of coast.
Thank you, Brian. I’ve just been admiring your shots of Newfoundland. I did see it in the distance (!) several months ago, and I must get back to explore an obviously fascinating place. Donald.

Stunning scape, great composition and details!
Hi Denis, Good to catch up and thank you for your comment. Rather a dull day, but very much calmer than when the “Geltwood” went down!
