Will you stand aside,
to watch your brother die,
your siblings kneel beside him,
screaming tears asking, “why?”
He stares into your eyes,
no words can come to mind,
as your heart cries out forgivness,
he smiles, he knows you’re kind.
You’ve killed so many,
it’s just a job,
and what you do is right,
but sorrow now surrounds you,
as the man gives up the fight.
War can change a man,
destroy the very soul,
as he holds death in the arms,
“What is the name of this life I stole?”
A missing part has now returned,
a tear blesses his cheek,
he knows he can’t go on like this,
it’s a peaceful life he seeks.
He looks back on his life,
and all he sees is pain,
as he looks up to see a child,
he wishes he was there again.
He knows he’s been forgiven,
but he can’t put down his gun,
can he ever change,
he knows what must be done.
As people start to back away,
they see it in his eyes,
emptiness before the gun is shot,
a freedom from the lies.
they now both lay together,
in a peace they never found,
war can change a man…
to be buried in the ground.
