Early September on Lake Louise near Miller, South Dakota. Took the canoe out for a paddle just before dark on a glass smooth calm lake. Carried it up to the cabin and set it upside down while I worked on getting a campfire ready to cook some squash I had picked up at a roadside farmers market. The stillness and calm of the evening was more enjoyable for the knowledge of how quickly the season for canoeing was coming to an end.
