Heaven and Earth
I’ve was sprinting back and forth across our yard the past few nights… pointing my camera towards the glorious sunsets in the West and then racing to the back pasture to capture the astonishing moon rise in the East. It has been a fun couple of evenings and I am having a hard time deciding which images to post. I liked this one in particular because the grass blade feels like it helps anchor the moon at the earths horizon. When the moon first appears it is blood red… (I haven’t processed those pictures yet!) and it is ENORMOUS!! That is one of my favorite moments though, when it seems like heaven and earth are so close.

Beautiful capture. The blade of grass does anchor the moon in the shot and adds so much more interest. Looks like all the exercise running back and forth really paid off! :)

Wonderful composition it is.. I see the man in the moon face as it has his mouth open.. hmmm.. The off side subject.. and the opposite of sky and ground composition. Contrasting colors are good… hmmm.. I see you playing withyourself… why not add another branch to the other side.. and you can play moon ball together.

The composition is a really strong point in this moonlit image and the well controlled exposure of our lunar neighbour makes it easy on the eye to view and allows surface shapes to be easily seen.
The grass emerging from our bottom left corner makes a good lead-in and counterbalances the softness of the moon with its clear angular shapes in good focus.
The tonal range paints the frame with a nice silvery grey and the stark darkness of the grass is a good contrast.
