Shafts of Light
This image was taken late afternoon in the loft of our barn (badly in need of a new roof). At first I was captivated by the points of light in the semi-dark loft and tried capturing them. Then I thought to myself how much more interesting they would be if you could see the light in its path from the roof to the spot of light on the floor so I began to move the loose hay on the floor from one side of the barn to the other. (I am terribly allergic to hay.) The dust worked its magic and created a spectacular light show. Several hours later my lungs are still agonizing over the assault!
Shown here with off white mat in mocha flat frame.

worth the sneezing, this is a great shot well done
Dawne Olson replied
Thanks Michael, I had the thought later, that I should go shoot some more holes in the roof with a shotgun but you have to draw the line somewhere…? :0)
Leslie Wood
Beautiful shot and great thinking!! So sorry for you having to deal with the allergies to get this though. :)
Dawne Olson replied
thank you Leslie… It was a moment to lose myself in, so the allergies didn’t bother me too much (at the moment!) lol
Barbara Morrison
Very pretty! Don’t fix the roof.
Dawne Olson replied
Thanks Barbara… I love the feel of the loft when the light beams through it like that (feels like a sanctuary) :0)

Yes… fine debris in the air is a good trick.. I like that. Light acts well with what you have done. .. what I imagine when I see this… I see spot lights… many of them… wondering if you set the exposure to the brightness of the white to show the details… that would result in the inside of the barn to be all dark.. so the light rays would be more pronounced. Then.. I think of .. “who is being watched”.. as the spotlight brightens up the performers on a stage of life. Allegra will clear it up. ok.. more pronounced look? Do you have a shop vac? or Blower… YEAH.. now that is the ticket.. but wear eye protection…. keep your camera in a bag.. also keep to the side a little air spray can to blow off the dust off the lens.
