Lord, Please Tell Me

The inspiration behind this song came from four passages in the Bible:

Leviticus 18:22
John 3:16
1 Corinthians 6:9-10
2 Corinthians 12:7-10

This song was also meant to be sung to the tune of Elisa’s “Una Poesia Anche Per Te”

Probably one of the most personal things I’ve ever written… I’m sure most everyone will realize exactly what I’m talking about in this song without me having to spell it out… getting it out of my system this way is cathartic in a way I can’t even begin to describe. If you want to ask me anything about this song, feel free – I still feel the need to talk about it with anyone who has any sort of idea what I’ve dealt with these past 21 years…

Verse 1
If I abandoned all pretense
Showed You just how broken I am
Shed a light on this thorn in my flesh
A poisoned arrow Cupid shot
Causing me to love who I must not:
Another man

More than just a sinner,
This abomination whispers

Chorus
Is there love,
A hope, a prayer, a chance for me,
To hold salvation
In the palms of my unworthy hands?
Am I strong enough
To not be crippled by this guilt?
Cause’ if it’s true You love me,
I can’t hate myself anymore

Verse 2
Marriage, a family, and romance
Felt like too much for You to ask of me
To give up despite Your own sacrifice
Will Heaven’s gates shut in my face
If I allowed my heart to swing
In different ways?

And then I see the cross on that hill,
Am I insane to chase You still?

Chorus
Is there love,
A hope, a prayer, a chance for me,
To hold salvation
In the palms of my unworthy hands?
Am I strong enough
To not be crippled by this guilt?
Cause’ if it’s true You love me,
I can’t hate myself anymore

Verse 3
It’s so confusing everyday
This part of me I keep praying You’d take away
Yet still I wake, and it feels the same
If a miracle can be born from weakness
Then I pray someday I might just see it
Before I die

Oh, could you tell me, Master?
Because without you, there are no answers

Chorus
Is there love,
A hope, a prayer, a chance for me,
To hold salvation
In the palms of my unworthy hands?
Am I strong enough
To not be crippled by this guilt?
Cause’ if it’s true You love me,
I can’t hate myself anymore

I’ll hate myself no more
No more…

this is truly stunning and obviously quite heartfelt – nicely done – and the way you’ve woven your religious questioning into it -looking to the divine for a solution or resolution – very good stuff!

Oh, Daniel, Daniel. My heart breaks that you feel so torn. But is any brokenness more whole than another? God be with you, surrounding you with love. No condemnation, my friend-in-Christ.

Daniel, my beloved brother, it is heart wrenching how your lyrics leap off the page into notes song by your weeping heart. I assure you Brother Daniel, we are all unworthy of the perfect gift of salvation. DO NOT LET THAT HINDER YOU. Instead allow it to propel you speedily to the cross, do not allow the evil one to take your joy. Please tell me, who on this earth deserves this wonderful salvation plan (all have sinned and fallen short) that not only saves our soul from hell but also makes us heirs with Christ – God The Son. How excellent is that! Hallelujah!

I know you are in pain right now, but the more hurt you feel – thank and praise God! The more you feel guilty – thank and praise God! I guarantee the evil one will flee and your thorn will end up being a stepping stool allowing you a passage to a higher level in Christ. My fervent prayers are with you and I pray that all our prayers for you will lift you up and help carry you across this hurdle.

You are Daniel, and your Hebrew name means, “God is my judge.” Now, if God – your creator says, “Not Guilty.” (…for there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus…) you are not guilty – debt not only paid in full but to God – you never committed it! I would love for you to spend time with God The Holy Spirit and allow Him to work through you to create some wonderful praise and worship songs. May God help you forgive yourself and may He release you from those strongholds (believe me – He wants to release you more then you want to be released and when you are just right [cause He’s an on-time God] He will release you so awesomely that chains will fall from the feet of those all around you due to the aftershocks.

    We love you Daniel!
