"Only" Human
Published in Cal Poly Pomona’s literary magazine – Harvest International, Issue #33
This one is dedicated to anyone who’s ever felt inferior, small, ugly, flawed, or insignificant. I’ve got some news for you – God made you beautiful and loves you in spite of all the flaws people say you have. You matter. You count. You are worth it. You are beautiful. And you are never out of the reach of the love of Jesus.
"Only" Human belongs to the following groups:
All Things Poetic, Artistic, PhilosophicalMy eyes are so big that they have their own shadows
My tummy can’t count to six
My voice doesn’t match with my modest frame
And I’ve got the skinniest wrists
I can eat like a pig, yet I remain weightless
And muscles are miles away
I wash everyday, but my acne is stubborn
It regularly visits my face
But my voice has a volume that silences crowds
My smile can almost sing
I smile because I know I’m not flawless
To be human is a beautiful thing!
The second half of half of my sentences
Constantly gets itself lost
My thoughts are so frequently running in circles
If they had eyes, they’d be crossed
I stutter, I stumble, I mix up my words
My tongue gets tied up for no reason
To retain information is no walk in the park
My memory is way past amnesia
Some fade away, then come back loud
Like a child’s playground swing
But if there’s one thing that I’ve never forgotten
To be human is a beautiful thing!
I’m stupid with cars, I’m stupid with sports
Well, heck, sometimes I’m just stupid
My opinions have never been nailed to the ground
So some days I’m a bit of a nuisance
There are so many people who are older and smarter
That sometimes I feel like a baby
But they’re so boring and dull and vanilla
It’s easy for me to be racy
I raise their eyebrows, and laugh in their faces
My sense of humor is king
And I laugh at myself cause’ I’m lovin’ myself
To be human is a beautiful thing!
I’m weird and peculiar, I talk to myself
I argue with my own mind
I make faces whenever I look in the mirror
And daydream from morning til’ night
From comedies, dramas, gore, and romance
These movies all shot in my head
Are films that few have ever seen
The plots even fewer have read
But that’s how I was made – God forbid that I change
Or mess with His greatest design
We fall, we fly, we’re the same, you and I
We’re human – it’s a beautiful thing!
