“There is nothing more astoundingly beautiful than the female form. If we look at the thought of God as an artist. . . and that the artist keeps creating until he finally creates that certain something that he feels is the end all, be all of his creative process, and then stops. . . then we have part of the answer to that question here. God made all of these things – the land, the oceans, the trees, the animals, man. . . then woman. The last thing he made was the woman. Everything that was created contains parts of the previous creation. All leading up to one inescapable conclusion. All parts lead, somehow, to a final. . . and then you stop when you feel you have reached the optimum. The last creation was woman. Something that contained all of the beauties and elements of the creations before it. There has been nothing new since then. So I guess the Artist was happy. . . and then just….stopped. . . feeling that that was the optimum creation. That it couldn’t get any better than that.”

    It’s a beautiful photo.
I like the contrast. The light in the eyes is really good.
Frame reads from left to right. All good. Nice and close
    Really a good portrait

See, this shows just how good you are.

You didn’t make the common mistake that most people make with 3-quarter portrait shots… that is : the subjects nose ’’breaks” the line of their face.

The lower angle/perspective also adds strength to the subject. Great composition and framing.

Beautifull skin tones and detail, with excellent ’’wet-look’’ eyes.

thanks Byron (and all you guys above!)

i actually can’t take all the credit for this one – this was one of the shots I took for the eyelash lengthener photoshoot i talked about in my journal on Tuesday, and the doctor who created the product was standing over my shoulder for many of the photos i took, more or less directing my every move. So he was the one who came up with the positioning of her face/ eyes… I handled the post processing

i especially liked shooting Dana though – very beautiful and down to earth woman… perfect blend of Marylin Monroe and Girl Next Door radiance about her. And with this particular shot… it was funny… out of the hundred of pictures I took this day, I knew in my heart that I wanted to tweak this one up from the moment i clicked the shutter. The doctor didn’t even have to tell me anything – it was one of those instant gut feelings where a voice just says quite clearly into your head “this shot… wow… you’ve got something really good here…”

    glad u like it!

(wasn’t aware of the 3-qtr portrait mistake I narrowly avoided – I’ve never really done portraits like this before, but I’ll keep it in mind for the future! what do you mean by the nose “breaking” the line of the face?)

    Hiya Daniel,

The nose ’’breaking the face’’ means that (using this image as an example) her nose would extend past the line formed by the left-side of her face. It would stick-out like it would in a ’’profile’’ shot.

This is fine in a profile shot. But if you can see both eyes, ... ie in this type of 3qtr perspective, then it looks better if you dont let the nose extend beyond the line of the face.

Other tips for shooting portraits (which you used anyway…)

    1. Subject facing left to right creates a pleasant feeling.
    2. Subject facing right to left creates a feeling of tension.

This is because we view the image from top left to bottom right.

    3. Women look more appealing with a high-key backgrounds (light).
    4. Men look more appealing with a low-key backgrounds (dark).
    5. The subject should be at least 3 feet from the background/backdrop to remove possibility of shadows outlining their face and to allow for out-of-focus blur by using depth-of-field.

As for the doctor person setting everything up for you, even so, that is just ’’design’’ you still have final control over framing/aperture/shutter speed and perspective/angle.

This really is a top class professional shot Daniel.

I can’t find any fault. Hell, I thought it was from a glossy fashion mag.
