Honoring the Spirit of Halloween
Tomorrow is Halloween. For most, it is the day to dress up in crazy costumes, go to parties, lead children to stranger’s houses to collect candy, and, for many adults, to act like children. America is really good at degrading tradition to its most base of qualities. I have long thought it strange that Americans have adopted an old pagan holiday, but then, the holiday hasn’t really been adopt…
Completion: The Waning Moon
Today, as the full moon recedes into the Waning phase. we come to the end of the lunar cycle.
The decreasing of the moon’s glowing appearance signifies the need to focus energy in order to tie-up all the loose ends of the project started at the beginning of the cycle. If the project is complete, this is the time to double check and make sure that nothing was left out or forgotten.
Soon…
Reaching the Peak: The Full Moon
The full moon phase begins its influence a few days before its completely full state. It offers heightened energy and stimulates productivity, which aids in the completion of a goal. The full moon tends to influence emotions (we have all heard the stories of the rise of activity at police stations and hospitals at the full moon), however, the heightened emotions rarely lead to lunacy. Inste…
Moving Forward: The First Quarter
The moon has moved from its dark phase and now begins the first quarter or waxing phase. With increasing light of moon, energy too is increasing. Your monthly projects are taking shape and your plans should be in motion. However, just like any project that has been started, obstacles and challenges will arise.
The First Quarter energy reminds you to take a moment to re-evaluate your cours…
Autumn Equinox: Giving Thanks
Today is the autumnal equinox (in the Northern Hemisphere), which marks when we experience an equal number of light and dark hours. After today, the days grow shorter and the nights grow longer
Traditionally, the autumnal equinox also marked the end of the annual harvest and was (and in some countries still is) an important event in agricultural societies, bringing with it a feeling of compl…
Exploring Cycles: The New Moon
Because of my interest in exploring and connecting to natural cycles and rhythms, I thought it would be appropriate to officially begin the process and share my journey at the start of the New Moon phase. In ancient Celtic tradition, the beginning of a cycle is it the dark time. For example, the day begins at sunset, not at midnight, and so the beginning of the lunar cycle is when the moon is d…
Connecting to the Source
As I prepare for my three month residency at Osage Arts Community in Belle, Missouri, I have been thinking about what kind of art I will be creating so that I make sure to pack the correct materials. Originally, my plan was to work on developing my skills in felting and to create felted wool sculptures. But some personal/family issues and a recent conversation with two of my patrons has made me…
The Morrigan: The Dark Mother DIVINE FEMININE Challenge Winner
Thank you very much for those that voted for The Morrigan: The Dark Mother in the Celtic/Norse Goddess Challenge for the Divine Feminine Group. I am so grateful to have had my painting chosen. I worked very hard on that piece to adequately represent the nature and power of The Morrigan. I am pleased to know that I did her justice. Many many thanks.

Challenges: A Balancing Act
Last week was a very difficult week for me. I started the week out digitally editing of some images of mine, for an upcoming show in May. I moved from simple formatting changes like size and color correcting, to taking an older watercolor I had that was damaged and digitally painting over it to fix it. I posted the image for you to see. By mid-week was starting to feel unsettled, unfocused, my …
Looking before Leaping Forward
I recently finished the painting “The Morrigan: the Dark Mother”, which is a mediation on the roles that darkness, death, the end of things, etc. plays in our lives. (I will be posting it as soon as it comes back from getting scanned.)
And as signals of Spring begin to make its appearance, I feel the need to pause and consider the dark of Winter as it begins to pass.
I think our society oft…
