Chicago is very fortunate in having the Peggy Notebart Nature Museum, Butterfly Haven, which is open year around and fosters some very exotic buterfly species. The year this was shot I must have shoot one thousand images. I tried several techniques to produce unique images, but still there is nothing more beautiful than a close-up of butterfly. The colors and patterns in these insects atre incredible, more so when you realize they only live for a fews days to maybe a couple of months.
All the images were shot with a Nikon 105 micro lens, sometimes with strobe fill from a SB29.
The image of the gaint blue morph was shot with a 300mm lens from the floor of the butterfly haven. I found it very hard to get a picture of this butterfly with wings spread.
The original images were shot on Provia 100 transparency film or Kodachrome 200.
