THE REAL WORLD IS COMING TO TOWN
The sun shown brightly that fantasy night
And we flew among the clouds a dreamy flight
And we were in love and all was all right
And the lady beside me was a constant delight
And the lady beside me was a wondrous sight.
Then away in the distance the trumpets blew
Heralding the arrival of something new
They said to make way for the work crew
They would replace fiction with what was true
For they were bringing the real world through.
The real world was coming to town
They were excited and milling around
It took them a while to see my frown
They asked if I wasn’t coming down
“No” I replied floating off the ground.
Then they sought to wake her at my side
But they couldn’t no matter what they tried
She must be sick or dead some of them cried
“No” I said the distances are just too wide
Between us and the real world to which you’re tied.
This just isn’t right some of them said
What the hell has gotten into your head
And they tried to tie my feet to bars of lead
No, I protested that I would rather be dead
Than leave this world my lady and I tread.
Thankfully they then went their own way
Left me floating there, and my lady where she lay
But as they left I could hear them say
I would feel differently in the darkness of day
Then I would trade this for the games they play.
I then took my cherished ladies warm hand
And we drifted through our make believe land
Building fantasy castles in gold and silver sand
Making our dreams become real, just as we planned
And never was the real world nearly so grand.
