Remembering My Father
Black and White Photographic Image with Blue Filter
This picture is dedicated to my father (who is still alive) but worked all of his life in a steel mill. He did without so that his children would never have to. I will never truly be able to repay that generosity. I was the last of my parents’ children having been an unplanned surprise as my Mother turned 40, but I never felt unloved. I remembering my Father working the late shift and overnights to earn extra money. As a child I would walk by the mill and feel a sense of comfort knowing that somewhere behind the gates my father was at work, both still close at hand even if out of sight.
My Father was the Captain of his High School football team. He had a chance to go to college but joined the Navy to help fight in WWII. Returning home he married my Mother and started to raise a family. Their choices allow me to be here, on this planet, on this sight, sharing what little talent I might have with others. For that I will be eternally grateful.
