I am often asked about my style of photography and how I came about it. It is not so much something that I discovered but rather it discovered me.
You will notice that a lot of my work is quite minimalistic and simple in its composition. Around every corner in life, there are new decisions to be made, new sights to explore and new smells to inhale. It can be quite intimidating and overwhelming and at times, it prevents me from being able to concentrate. Very quickly I can find myself lost and unable to remember how to get to where I wanted to go or even how to return to where I started.
A couple of years ago I discovered that through photography, I can finally make sense of all this chaos. By stripping down my surroundings to their basic form and concentrating on one thing at a time, I am forced to relax, to slow down and to enjoy the simplicity of life. Not only does this help ‘in the now’, but I can easily recall these images at anytime if I find myself once again overwhelmed by my surroundings.
So as you see, photography is more than just a pastime or hobby for me, it is also a necessity for my survival. I need to take these images.
Note: This piece was originally written for the Fine Art of Photography Group a number of months ago but I have decided to share it with a larger audience.

Wow David! So glad you posted this. It is a beautiful and articulate description of your strong visual connection to the world. And I love that it helps you get through the chaos of life. I have been able to begin to appreciate a city I thought was ugly and didnt like living in by stopping to notice the details and photograph them.
