Yin & Yang

Yin & Yang

According to Chinese philosophy, Yin and Yang are the two primal forces controlling the whole of the universe . One negative, dark, passive, cold, wet, and feminine (yin – in this case the rock on the right) and the other positive, bright, active, dry, hot and masculine (yang – the sand on the left). The interactions and balance of these forces in people and nature influence their behavior and fate. It is thought that everything can be categorized by this balancing system.

This is part of my sand series.

I’ve been staring for what seems like forever trying to figure out just what it is I’m looking at. I still don’t know, but the minimalist forms fascinate me – almost perfectly balanced between dark and light; good and evil.

Thank you uncommondepth! The yin (dark side) is a rock still wet from the recently receded tide and the yang (light side) is the sand.
