“Buddy” Charles Lazarus is the newest addition to our household that consists of me, my husband, Stacey, a Lab named Melissa, and a Mini Doxie named Katie. Buddy is a two year old Basset Hound. And for the first two years of his life, Buddy had a hell of a time just trying to survive. He was bought as a puppy from the breeder by a 17 year old boy who did not care for him properly and half starved him. Buddy kept escaping out of his yard (probaly in search of food) and was repeatedly picked up by animal control and put in the pound. The boy did bail him out at least 3 times and on Buddy’s last time to the pound the boy decided that he could not afford to keep paying the bail out fees, gave up on him, and left him there to possibly be euthanized. Luckily for Buddy a very well meaning family came along and adopted him in the nick of time. That family lived in a crowded housing area and Buddy, who had become an expert at digging underneath fences, refused to stay in their yard. (No surprise, right?) After Buddy would tear down their fence, he would still hang around but the neighbors were getting annoyed. Sadly, after a couple of weeks of owning him, the family placed an ad on Craig’s list to find Buddy a new home. And that’s where I came in. We had just had our beloved Beagle, Lucy, pass away. Not that any dog could ever replace her but we thought a third dog would complete our family again. So I called the family and made arrangements to bring Buddy home. Home where there is plenty of food to fattten him up, home where he is in the country and can roam without fences, and home where he will have more love than he can handle because he absolutely deserves it. Buddy has come into our household and has been an absolute delight. He follows every step that my husband makes in the house and is the first little eager “greeter” when I get out of bed in the morning. This is his “forever home” and he seems to be enjoying every minute of it.
