Meet Felicity, My American Girl Doll by

Felicity is an 18 inch jointed vinyl doll with to the waist auburn hair, sparkling green eyes, and a sprinkle of freckles across her face. She was manufactured by the Pleasant Doll Company between the years 1986 and 1998. In 1982, the company became a subsidiary of Mattel Toys and this doll was made prior to that time. Hence, she is what the collectors call a “Pre-Mattel” and is more valuable than her Mattel counter parts. My Felicity was purchased for $40.00, plus shipping, several years ago from another doll collector. Now that Felicity has been retired from production, the prices for this doll far exceed that. American Girl dolls, new, are running about $160.00 per doll.
The dolls portray ten-year-old girls of a variety of ethnicities living in various times throughout American history. They are sold with accompanying books told from the viewpoint of the girls. Originally the stories focused on various periods of American history, but were expanded in 1995 to include characters and stories from contemporary life. A variety of related clothing and accessories is also available. Pleasant Company was founded in 1986 by Pleasant Rowland, and its products were originally purchasable by mail order only.

Lucky! I love those dolls;unfortunately,I can’t afford one but I get the catalog so I can look at all the cute stuff they have. Also,I’m going to get my niece their magazine as an Xmas or Bday Gift. Enjoy your new doll,Deborah:-)

  • I have had her for quite awhile. She was a splurge for a birthday of mine one year. I found Samantha a couple of weeks ago in a thrift store for $3.03. I had to restring her and the supplies for that were $6.00. If you go to thrift stores or flea markets you can sometimes come across them. I can not afford the new ones either. I would love to have Julie. Thanks so much for your comment!!! xxx ☺

Oh Deb… what a beautiful doll…. i wish i had known you about 3 years ago when my oldest daughter sold her whole collection of dolls that she had collected for about 20 years! This is a great portrait of Miss Felicity!

  • Wow!!! Ii am sorry that the dolls were not saved for Norah!!! You do not know how many times that I have heard doll collectors lamenting having sold their dolls before children and grandchildren were born. Think of her before parting with anything else. Thanks for the comment!!! xxx
